Chronic Venous Stasis Ulcer

This 67 year old diabetic, Caucasian female developed venous stasis ulcers to her left ankle.

The largest ulcer was located on the medial side of the ankle. When she originally came to us the wound measured 3.5 by 8.0 centimeters, which she had had for almost weeks prior.

An aggressive wound care program was started and included patient education to assist her with proper ambulation and proper hygiene. Every modality of usual wound care was tried with little or no result. On two occasions the wound was contaminated with maggots.

After applying a new, investigational wound care product the ulcers healed in approximately eight weeks.
